It started in the backyard playing in the mud
Sam was only three and was looking for a bud
He jumped out, He jumped out, Sam did exclaim
After that day, it never was the same
Sam and Toad, Sam and Toad
Playing in the mud, neither wearing clothes
Sam and Toad, Sam and Toad
Sam was so dirty he got cleaned off with a hose
Sam was so dirty he got cleaned off with a hose
A few years later, Sam was still catching frogs
Big ones, little ones, hiding under logs
Light green, dark green or with multi colored spots
Sam could always find them faster than they hopped
Sam and Toad, Sam and Toad
How they got together, God only knows,
Sam and Toad, Sam and Toad
It's a love story, and this is how it goes
It's a love story, and this is how it goes
Toad was swimming in the bottom of the pond
Sam just reached down and there he was
He pulled him from the water just to show his sister
Evelyn it's a frog, but you don't want to kiss him
Sam and Toad, Sam and Toad
How they got together, God only knows,
Sam and Toad, Sam and Toad
It's a love story, and this is how it goes
It's a love story, and this is how it goes
Who knows how this story ends
Can a boy and a toad always remain friends?
All I can say, is I won't be one to judge
A boy and a toad playing in the mud
