I have skipped stones, all through the ages
Over many years and throughout many stages
at Pictured Rocks, an' out at Chapel Beach
I love leaning down until I've found, the perfect one
A rock that is flat, round and smooth
At just the right size and the right weight too
I love lining up my view to skip
As the waves come rolling through
It's like skipping stones, is a way to be known
Like memories flowing out as words over pages
Captures my mind, like pictures of a time
Where I skipped a stone, that will last through the ages
I've skipped stones out at North Manitou
Skipping stones from both sides of that view
Out from the mainland and the islands too
So many stones to throw, out into the blue
Now stand back and watch
it skip down a time or two
At Pictured Rocks where its just me and you
My favorite is when it bounces so high
Up in the air and toward, the blue sky
I've picked up that rock, I've tossed it in
All my memories come flooding in
They capture tears and the long list of fears
The words capture delight as the stones skips to the light
The sun showers down with its light pouring out
The waves rolling in pulling me back in
Once again
It's like skipping stones, is a way to be known
Like memories flowing out as words over pages
