The Bells

"The Bells" is a heavily onomatopoeic poem by Edgar Allan Poe which was not published until after his death in 1849. It is perhaps best known for the diacopic use of the word "bells." The poem has four parts to it; each part becomes darker and darker as the poem progresses from "the jingling and the tinkling" of the bells in part 1 to the "moaning and the groaning" of the bells in part 4. more »

Struggling with 3 a.m.? Become a better singer in 30 days with these videos!

He's got a photograph
He pinned it on a wall
But when he looks at it
He doesn't feel a thing at all

It's just an image
Of someone he used to know
The time has gone for holding on
The time has come for letting go

And now it's 3 a.m.
And I'm still wide awake
Staring at the same four walls
And waiting for my heart to break

There is one thing
That I'd really like to know
Is this the time for holding on?
Or is it time for letting go?

He's telling me that "Love can die"
Well, to me that's news
You see, I'm not losing him
It's just a piece of me I lose

And this decision
Was made so long ago
The moment that we felt the doubt
That's when we started letting go
