Adam Carter

Adam Henry Carter is a fictional character from the BBC espionage television series Spooks, which follows the exploits of Section D, a counter-terrorism division of MI5. He is portrayed by British actor Rupert Penry-Jones. The character is a former MI6 officer who takes charge as the chief of Section D, and hence the head protagonist following the departure of Tom Quinn in series three. Adam Carter was created with the knowledge that Matthew Macfadyen, who played Tom Quinn, would leave the series. The intention was that Adam would be different from Tom; the producers wanted a character who was a husband with an MI6 background. Rupert Penry-Jones was cast after three auditions. I heard a song that helped me hang along
When I was drowning in the creek
And I don't know what the words are supposed to mean
But they do cut deep
Then I saw a fruit fly shoot out my nose
I saw a spider crawl up my cheek
Then a blizzard filled my vision
I was snowed in for a week
When I finally awoke
The sleet had turned a crimson red
The chatter amongst the streets
Was now the wails of the dead
I imagined if life had stayed the same
Or I chose a different road instead
It's safe to say that I can't complain when I remembered what I'd said

It brought me down
She wore the thorn of crowns in a shantytown
I know it now
It was the devil to who I made a vow
It brought me down
She wore the thorn of crowns in a shantytown
I know it now
It was the devil to who I made a vow

I saw a man hanging from his neck
For crimes he did not commit
The real culprit had diamonds in his eyes
And gold chunks in his spit
As he watched the man hang he felt no ounce of pain
He did not feel a bit
He got what he wanted, as soon as he came
He went off, split
And as I saw him go, I noticed my hands caught tied in ropes
A cackle behind my ears
I turned to see a face framed in smoke
She whispered "dear, feel no ounce of fear
And don't hold on to hope
It'll only get worse from here
My best advice is just try to cope

It brought me down
She wore the thorn of crowns in a shantytown
I know it now
It was the devil to who I made a vow
It brought me down
She wore the thorn of crowns in a shantytown
I know it now
It was the devil to who I made a vow

I've tasted the spit of a thousand sons and daughters
That sit alone
Atop a throne of glass built upon a nation carved in stone
I only hope to ask that a god exists
So one day they may atone
For now, the ash falls across our fists
And says that we're on our own
And with fractured hands
I thought of the tomb that was my abode
With no body parts left to lose
I saw her face at the crossroads
And we gathered the sculptors
Mimes and lovers
To take back what was owed
Before success was clear she disappeared
As quick as the river flowed

It brought me down
She wore the thorn of crowns in a shantytown
I know it now
It was the devil to who I made a vow
It brought me down
She wore the thorn of crowns in a shantytown
I know it now
It was the devil to who I made a vow
