I am Chicago's Miles Morales
Nipsey preached the Marathon but a miles a challenge
Heavy hearts on the south side vile and malice
Stained the souls of the youth now how could I manage
To the boys who had jumped me at the court up on Cottage Grove
I was young but that's some hate that I ain't gotta hold
I know they thought I'd say some vengeful stuff
But now I fight wit my words
And y'all don't know a lot of those
I'm here now, victim to some hear say
Still to this day, it's tryna track me in a weird way
Marked me and my influence
Wondered how I get through it
Wondered if I still fought then would that help me get through it
This is Bobby Fischer level of mastery
Congrats to the ones who learned that they never could have me
I can't be bought or bargained for, to see what I got in store
You gon need more than a wrist band or a membership pass
Say it wit me
Breathe in (color)
Breathe out (color)
Close the screen door fore you leave out (color)
No more black and white TV (color )
Open yo eyes, can you see me (color)
Breathe in (color)
Breathe out (color)
Close the screen door fore you leave out (color)
No more black and white TV (color )
Open yo eyes, can you see me (color)
Coulda died back in April, but that was grace
He held a gun to my side and said stay in a rappers place
Turned his back and walked away we coulda worked it out there
But I prolly wouldn't be here and I couldn't have rapped to day
Got off at the next stop and thought bout what my dad would say
I did the right thing and he truly concerned
I'm the one that's stepping out the house every single day
Knowing any day that man could come through on his word
They throw shade and love to offend you
Seeing your color or any other as special is a wonderful visual
Imagine my post on twitter saying come to my vigil
Crazy how me and that boys gun got a government issue
I'm boxing life and the fair skinnded
Bare fisted, hair twisted
In the mirror like life ain't fair is it
My battle cry is bound to sound different
Cuz I cry and my homie smoke loud, we break down different
Breathe in (color)
Breathe out (color)
Close the screen door fore you leave out (color)
No more black and white TV (color )
Open yo eyes, can you see me (color)
Breathe in (color)
Breathe out (color)
Close the screen door fore you leave out (color)
No more black and white TV (color )
Open yo eyes, can you see me
I recently learned
I am the final amalgamation of some careful calculations
All leading up to this moment the pressure heavy
I provide my salutations, welcome to the land of the hungry
I wanna be, wanna be sum you believe
I got some pretty decent freestyles
And some really good writtens like I want you to leave
But I want you to stay and get comfortable
Welcome to the land of the hungry
I had a talk wit some comedians and man it was funny
But pretty serious
We talked about the concepts of integration and fearlessness
Cuz if you're scared to grow then you frozen and you're complacent
Record labels ain't met you but lookin for your replacement
This is peak consciousness
A play it safe youngin wit a mind for street politics
I've seen food desserts and dryer spots
Seen a man manage da white better than Michael Scott
Twenty-twenty the first time that I had to fight a cop
Tried to detain my lil homie my people all we got
Kids in back of vans ain't sit right
Had to fist fight, was puttin both hands on twelve
Lookin like midnight
This is nonviolent plenty tea and meditation
I came only strapped wit prayer and preparation
Only who next to real you know if you not adjacent
This is for the people who
Either currently ducking smoke from me with the pen
Or some civil conversation please stop waiting
Sitting up In Nini's eating with Fem and Thelo
Thought my chances of losing and failing was slim to zero
Further discussed the ways that life changed
The right things led us to the path till night came
The stars aligned
Lined up the shot so perfect look at this arc of mine
Sometimes I make a good shot
And get a bit complacent
Forget to run back for the stop and that's the indication
Gotta be an example for the youth who live in different places
Hoopin, can't even slap the backboard
But still touch the glass at visitation
These are life changing lines no resuscitation
Can't even slap the backboard
But still touch the glass at visitation
Hear me
Breathe in (color)
Breathe out (color)
Close the screen door fore you leave out (color)
No more black and white TV (color )
Open yo eyes, can you see me (color)
Breathe in (color)
Breathe out (color)
Close the screen door fore you leave out (color)
No more black and white TV (color )
Open yo eyes, can you see me
