A  bad  flu  faster  spreading
In  Asia far away
Reached  our  shores  we  just  ignored
We  thought we had  bigger  problems
Election campaign economy
Suppress  all  negative  news
Doctors  fear  leaders  disagree
We're  told  only  happy  views

But  something  was  wrong
So  many  sick  weve  never  seen
Hospital  beds  overflowing
Did  not  know  who  to  believe
Biblical  scene  bodies  in  trucks
Nurses  and  doctors  exhausted

Where  it  was  going  no  one  knew
Death  in  the  hundreds  or  thousands
The  speed  of  the  spread  in  the  world  and  US
Was  greater  than  anyone  guessed
Numbers  of  sick  and  close  to  death
We  wondered  who  was  next

We  had  ways  to  fight  it
Distance  mask  vaccine
People  refused  all  remedies
They  just  wanted  to  be  free

Choosing  risk  over  reason
The  doctors  pleaded  with  us
People  refused  even  vaccine
Trusting  only  in  their  luck

Five  years  later  still  with  us
Variants  and  vaccines  competing
Humanity  grinding  surviving  laughing
