Chase

The band Chase was created in 1970 by Bill Chase, Ted Piercefield, Alan Ware, and Jerry Van Blair, all veteran jazz trumpeters who were also adept at vocals and arranging. They were backed up by a rhythm section consisting of Phil Porter on keyboards, Angel South (b. Lucian Gondron) on guitar, Dennis Johnson on bass, and Jay Burrid (b. Jay Mitthauer) on percussion. Rounding out the group was Terry Richards, who was featured as lead vocalist on the first album. In April 1971, the band released their debut album, Chase, which contains Chase's best-known song, "Get It On", released as a single that spent 13 weeks on the charts beginning in May 1971. Yeah, you never were one for city lights
You said they blocked out the sky, made the stars hard to find
More of a dirt road queen, pink Jeep on 35s
If I close my eyes, I can see it now
Your long hair blowing in the wind with the windows down
Now, you're out in the world, and I'm thinking bout how
We fell in love on a back road
Running off with my heart, and
Where you are now, girl, heaven only knows
Cause we were riverbed blanket, sipping blackberry wine
With the night moving fast, we were taking our time
I never thought you would go, cause we fell in love on a back road
Yeah, not much has changed. I still cruise around
And girl, I'm guilty I admit, still feel your lips
When I drive past the street where we first kissed
If I close my eyes, I can feel it now
A Friday night, ferris wheel buzz, spinning round and round
Now, you're out in the world, and I'm thinking bout how
We fell in love on a back road
Running off with my heart, and
Where you are now, girl, heaven only knows
Cause we were riverbed blanket, sipping blackberry wine
With the night moving fast, we were taking our time
I never thought you would go, cause we fell in love on a back road
Yeah, where did you go
Girl I still swear I see ya round every twisting corner
Sometimes I find myself late at night, drinking, wondering
When your hand's out the window dancing on the breeze
With the sun sinking down, do you think of me
We fell in love on a back road
Running off with my heart, and
Where you are now, girl, heaven only knows
Cause we were jean jacket rebels, skipping river rock pebbles
Your love's paved in my soul
Yeah, you've moved on, but I'm still froze
Where we fell in love on a back road
Girl, where did you go
Where did you go
Come back home where we fell in love on that back road
