From the job past the bank to the store
I can't afford to save anymore
Confuse privilege with liberty
Welcome to the meritocracy
For those not rich, mediocrity

And today, I raise my children carefully
Aware they assimilate my every move

To be aware, assured and strong
But I've my insecurities
My failings, immaturity

Are what they really gather and refine
So deception and lies
Apparent gifts that I supply
My just desserts
