That's all I'm saying though
Most of us came from that same situation, know what I'm saying
But that ain't never stop us though
Ay Black, you riding with me on this one?
Let's go

The year was seventy something so it had to be the year prior
When Allison and James finally got tired
Of creeping under the bleaches, smoking reefer, hugging and kissing
Plotting in a position to make the world a little different
She was popular, captain of the drill team, graduated with honors
Honest y'all, the world was her oyster
He was supposed to play baseball, get drafted to the majors
The Willie Mays of the ghetto but that ain't really phase her
She was focused on her own career, James you better go on somewhere
And that's what he did, three outs, he caught his last pop up
Ran off the field got locked up, left Allison knocked up
Going to the doctor all by herself
Put her books 'about Criminal Justice back on the shelf
So she can raise a little criminal just by herself
She taught me how to be a soldier through the bruises and cuts
And gave me game enough to get away with touching girls butts

You gotta wonder about a young black brother
Trying not to crumble from the pressure he's under
He put his gun up, he wants to come up, party this summer
But the angels whisper his number, the hood done took him under
Gotta wonder about a young black brother
Trying not to crumble from the pressure he's under
He put his gun up, he wants to come up, party this summer
But the angels whisper his number, the hood done took him under

Coming up I wasn't bothered by not knowing my father
He never offered me a dollar, so that made me go harder
Cops and robbers wasn't a game that's mainly how I survived
My homies counting tens and fives with deuce deuces on their side
I wanted in, so then, I'm in that kitchen full of heat
While my moms doing all she can so I won't fall victim to the street
She trying, I'm frying, she crying, we can't get along
1997 I wrote my first song
God knows I'm living wrong I'm writing to ease the pain
Spitting regret and frustration at all these suckers in the game
Going harder than ever this time for better reasons
Can't pay you back for my life but may these millions make us even
And I ain't leaving this earth 'til I reverse some of your hurts
Have you proud enough to wear that's my son on your shirt
I did my dirt, did my stretch in the can, now I'm a man
Guess who's always been my number one fan

You gotta wonder about a young black brother
Trying not to crumble from the pressure he's under
He put his gun up, he wants to come up, party this summer
But the angels whisper his number, the hood done took him under
Gotta wonder about a young black brother
Trying not to crumble from the pressure he's under
He put his gun up, he wants to come up, party this summer
But the angels whisper his number, the hood done took him under

So even though this Redskins hat don't match nothing that I got on
Lets you know where I'm from and which brother to put the spot on
I wouldn't bet a lot on him not progressing
I'm still here to spread my message through the grace of God's blessings
From a place where the first don't come back fast enough
And heavy hitters go to wakes to shoot the casket up
On my block money's always an issue
So niggas lick shots that'll rip half of your brain tissue
My uncle Giz told me never tell if the feds get you
'Cause everybody from connects, to your man, to these hoes might try to trip you
So before I pull the trigger I keep all this in mind
I know the difference between conceit and confidence so I'll be fine
But could it be that I'm tired of cold nights and gun fire
Coming home stressed my family calling me a liar
Nothing inspires me more than the doe
But with no inspiration is hard for us hoodlums to grow
I'm having a hard time adjusting to being outside not hustling
And girls not letting me slut 'em 'cause I can't afford to buy 'em nothing
Young nigga, big balls, play games with him, get paused
I done came too far to take a loss

You gotta wonder about a young black brother
Trying not to crumble from the pressure he's under
He put his gun up, he wants to come up, party this summer
But the angels whisper his number, the hood done took him under
Gotta wonder about a young black brother
Trying not to crumble from the pressure he's under
He put his gun up, he wants to come up, party this summer
But the angels whisper his number, the hood done took him under
