About I Get Lonely

"I Get Lonely" is a song by American singer Janet Jackson from her sixth album The Velvet Rope (1997). It was written by Jackson, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and Jackson's then-husband, René Elizondo Jr. It was released in February 26, 1998 by Virgin Records as the album's third single. The track is a departure from Jackson's signature brand of crossover dance-pop and R&B into a pure R&B and soul vibe. Lyrically, it expresses loneliness and the desire for an estranged lover. A remixed version of the song featured American R&B group Blackstreet. "I Get Lonely" became Jackson's eighteenth consecutive top-ten hit on the US Billboard Hot 100, setting a record as the only female artist to achieve that feat, surpassed only by Elvis Presley and The Beatles. The song received a BMI Pop Award for "Most Played Song" and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, and was later included on Janet's second greatest hits album Number Ones (2009). Its music video, directed by Paul Hunter, received positive reception for its abounding sex appeal.

I get so lonely
Can't let just anybody hold me
You are the one that lives in me, my dear
Want no one but you
I get so lonely
Can't let just anybody hold me
You are the one that lives in me, my dear
Want no one but

Sittin' here with my tears
All alone with my fears
I'm wonderin' if I have to do without you
But there's no reason why
I fell asleep late last night
Cryin' like a newborn child
Holdin' myself close
Pretendin' my arms are yours
I want no one but you

I get so lonely
Can't let just anybody hold me
You are the one that lives in me, my dear
Want no one but you
I get so lonely
Can't let just anybody hold me
You are the one that lives in me, my dear
Want no one but

I still remember to the day
In fact is was a third Monday
You came along to be the one for me
and now I'm alone
I'm sittin' here by the phone
Call and say that you're okay
So that I'll have the chance to beg you to stay
I want no one but you

I get so lonely
Can't let just anybody hold me
You are the one that lives in me, my dear
Want no one but you
I get so lonely (I get, I get)
Can't let just anybody hold me (can't let)
You are the one that lives in me, my dear
I want no one but you

I get so lonely (every time I see your face, baby)
Can't let just anybody hold me (every time I hear your name)
You are the one (I can't believe)
That lives in me, my dear (that you and me are no longer)
Want no one but you
I get so lonely (every time I see your face, babe, ooh)
Can't let just anybody hold me (every time I hear your name)
You are the one (you are the love)
That lives in me, my dear (that lives in me, baby)
Want no one but-

Gonna break it down, break it down, break it down
Gonna break it down, break it down, break it down
Ooh
You know that I know
That I get so lonely thinking of you
Ooh-hoo
No, whoa, ohh, no

I get so lonely (I get lonely when I hear your name)
Can't let just anybody hold me (I get lonely when I see your face)
You are the one that lives in me, my dear
Want no one but you
I get so lonely (get lonely when I hear your name)
Can't let just anybody hold me (I get lonely when I see your face)
You are the one that lives in me, my dear
Want no one but you (I don't want no one else but you)

I get so lonely (every time I see your face, baby)
Can't let just anybody hold me (every time I hear your name)
You are the one (you are the love)
That lives in me, my dear (that lives in me, baby)
Want no one but you (ooh, ohh)
I get so lonely (every time I hear your name, baby)
Can't let just anybody hold me (every time I see you face)
You are the one (I can't believe)
That lives in me, my dear (that you and me are no longer)
Want no one but you
