Keep your voice low
Let soft shadows play
On their sleeping faces
We've come far, my wife, since that long ago night
I know we'll be alright

Our ship left at the first hour of the new year
After midnight
We set our sails by the full moon light
And turned our backs on the old land
On decks below by lamplit glow our hope to grow
A new family
Distant shore and rough seas between us and freedom

On the third day a black flag made unease among the lads
Astern she came on an ill wind, bearing down dark and grim
The helmsman said avast, there be a battle on our hands

Blood was spilled and still we fought
Cannon fire held them off
Board they did at our side
Rapier fight, many died
Seadog devils, nasty tricks
Pegleg bludgeon finished it
Cut them loose, threw them off
Victory!

And so we left with heads held high, battered, bruised,
Still alive
We returned sails to clear blue sky
And set off again in ocean wide
On decks below by lamplit glow our hope arose
Our new child
Distant shore and rough seas lead us to freedom

Days passed and we journeyed on, stars to guide our way
Morning came with a golden dawn, travel's end that day

Land was seen and we all cheered
Watch the coastline drawing near
Shout we did, at the sight
Of our new life!

We arrived at high tide of morning ide
Into port
It's the last time our crew climbed the mastline
And lowered sails
On decks below by lamplit glow my story told
To our child
