Two Souls by Tim Pepper There's a man in a chair and he's closing his eyes, For a short time, yea he's resting his mind. 'Cause he's tired of trying to think his way out, Yeah he's tired of trying to bleed his way out, Of a lifetime working just to pay a few bills, Yeah he's tired of walking straight up hill. She's sweeping the floor and she casts a dark glance, At a man in the corner and his broken stance. He was a working man once, long ago, But it tore him apart, Brok him down slow, And she wonders if he'll ever get back in the game, And she feels like she don't even know his name. When he opened his eyes he saw her standing there, With the sunlight trickling through her hair. She look s a little stronger than she did back then, But he always knew that she'd be tougher than him. So he gives a little nod and half-smile, And he hopes that she can hold on a little while. Later that night they went out for a walk, Neither one felt like they needed to talk. They just held warm hands, And stepped down the road, In the worn-in comfort of each other's souls. Yeah, they walked a little further, a familiar path, Neither one ever wanting to go back.
