Here I was

You got agendas when you claim to protect us
You do it for your image when you claim to protect us
You got agendas when you claim to protect us
You do it for your image when you claim to defend us

You got agendas
When you claim to protect us
Do it for your image
When you claim to defend us

My uncle was cool and yes he was amazing
Back in 2014, I was in Grade Six
Every afternoon, after school
We watched animals instead of cartoons
And being a kid with no phone
I became imaginative with no close
With no phone I began to read more
There was abook I read, it still fascinate
And as a kid, I'd contemplate
You'll get me if you heard Drogas Wave
There was a scientist with biotechnology or microtechnology
Gave it to a group of creatures to upgrade them
But not the LongChains, instead of slavery, they fought pollution
Industrialization - and all that bomb the earth
Pardon my concepts, I was focused on the progress
Of improving my progress, enlarging my content
Get this, get that, my love for creatures go way back
Think deep but don't head scratch
Get that
Soul

You got agendas when you claim to protect us
You do it for your image when you claim to protect us
You got agendas when you claim to protect us
You do it for your image when you claim to defend us

You got agendas
When you claim to protect us
Do it for your image
When you claim to defend us

Two years passed in 2016
I'm in Grade Eight, don't let it mislead
In 2015, in-between, nothing happened
Over that let's get action
So in Umbilo they organized a show
For us Grade Eights before we go
For the holidays just so you know
So the guests brought spiders and a lot more but the stand outs were the serpents
So as the show went I was too afraid to go ahead
To see them upfront in front of learners
But when the show closed, they offered us to take pics with a python
And being a kid I couldn't hold back all my urges
With the love I spoke about, this picture would be diamond
So behind the office, one by one we took pics we took pics
But I didn't, I was too scared
So I stepped back and let others through
I guess love and fear have smothered you
But not completely, I was lost in line
So a part of me was optimized
Now my turn, everyone's gone
He lay the snake upon my shoulders
And he steps back to take a picture
The camera flash but afterwards there was no movement
I was already scared but it got worse
When I felt the snake moving closer towards my throat
A few milliseconds I was jittery
I can't describe the look with imagery
In the back of my head, I better get it off before it finish me
So I don't hesitate to throw it on the floor
They all stepped back with face full of awe
The owner jumps forward and nearly something racial
Maybe he did and my history is a bit jaded
Beside that, there's no consequence
But apparently the snake was injured
Misfit but there's nothing more I've feared since
Soul

You do it for your image when you claim to protect us
You got agendas when you claim to protect us
You do it for your image when you claim to defend us

You got agendas

Do it for your image
When you claim to defend us

I'm sorry, I'm the cause of my hypocrisy
I've spoken against something I've also committed
And did it all in the name of being authentic
While I ignore the fact that I harmed a snake
It's still a living being when you discard the hate
And it's bothered me but as late
I've had to realise that it's deeper than I thought
And the African Soldier was used to bury all
Not directly but subconsciously
As I conceived it three years after it
I'll admit, it's weird to confess such a thing
But trauma is a monster if it gets ignored for years
And you get laughed at by friends and peers
I get that you found it funny because I too also laughed
But I'm the one who'll see a snake and get in shock
Snakes on a Plane would leave me without sleep
My conscience is easy to attack
And the thought of my actions haunts me bad
I've acted holy but this changes that
For what it's worth, I apologize
You could pass it off as a joke
Since it's an apology to a snake
But evil deeds are evil deeds
So now you know I screech
At the thought or sight
Of a snake, I become disorganized
Forgive me that's all I ask
And I hope you find it despite it all you lost
Soul

When you claim to defend us
