Won't you sit and stay awhile and lend an old man your ear
I've got some tales that'll make you smile and a few that'll make you tear
I've lived a life of many miles filled with, both, dark days and clear
And if you'll kindly sit and wile away some time right here

I've met, loved, and lost a lot of good folk in this life of mine, you see
And now I'm the last, it's a cruel joke, because pain's a poor substitute for glee
If I had one chance to do it all again... but differently
I really wouldn't change too many things, because then it would change me

I did good things and I did bad things, but nothing too extreme
I had two great kids and a pretty wife... man, we made a great team
When a bad day came and knocked me down, I'd look at them and beam
Because even on a day that's a nightmare, I knew I was living the dream

I don't much believe in an afterlife... it's a crazy idea
I've done the best I can do in this life so a punishing god's not a fear
And I know that there's better and there's worse folk that did better and worse down here
So when my time on earth comes to an end, I'll go with a conscience that's clear
