Merle Haggard

Merle Ronald Haggard (born April 6, 1937) is an American country music song writer, singer, guitarist, fiddler and instrumentalist. Along with Buck Owens, Haggard and his band The Strangers helped create the Bakersfield sound, which is characterized by the unique twang of Fender Telecaster and the unique mix with the traditional country steel guitar sound, new vocal harmony styles in which the words are minimal, and a rough edge not heard on the more polished Nashville Sound recordings of the same era. more »

There's no magic way
For me to get over you
There's not much left to say
And not a thing left to do

Seldom I laugh
And seldom I ever cry
But there's times I drink too much
And there's times when I lie

Sometimes I hate myself
And wish I could scream
Sometimes I give up on love
But sometimes I dream

Sometimes I dream
Looking out through my window
Speeding through the night
In a long limousine

There's a curse on my heart
And I'll never love again
I'm forever a lonely man
But sometimes I dream
