"Mexicali Rose" is a popular song with music by Jack Tenney and lyrics by Helen Stone, published in 1923. The song is a love story of a man who must leave his love for a while. The chorus: The song has become a pop standard, performed by many artists, including The Lennon Sisters 1960 (Sing Twelve Great Hits - Dot Records DLP 3292), Bing Crosby, Gene Autry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Harry James, Slim Whitman, Vera Lynn, Burl Ives, Clint Eastwood and Jim Reeves. Bing Crosby recorded the song for Decca Records on July 11, 1938 and his version is the only one to reach the charts in the USA achieving the No. 3 spot in 1938. Crosby recorded the song again for his 1954 album Bing: A Musical Autobiography. The song was used in the 1939 film Mexicali Rose starring Gene Autry.
