About Graceland

"Graceland" is the title song of the album Graceland, released in 1986 by Paul Simon. The song features vocals by The Everly Brothers. The lyrics deal with the singer's thoughts during a road trip to Graceland after the failure of his marriage. Actress and author Carrie Fisher, Simon's ex-wife, said that the song referred in part to their relationship. In addition to his trip to Graceland, the Memphis home of Elvis Presley, the song contains numerous allusions and references to other cultural touchstones including National Guitars and the "Human Trampoline", a based on a real person from New York City. This has in turn become a part of popular culture and is referenced in Salman Rushdie's book Quichotte.
