Awere1 of Port Florence

Awere1 aka Bontu Bongani is a well known Kenyan reggae artist born 1992 in the outskit of Kisumu town. Having completed his forth form he moved to the Kenyan capital city with the hope of meeting better producers and music recording studios.His musical inspiration is drawn from daily experiences like encounter with people, politics, spirituality, internet and religion which in his view has separated so many people in the world (His song 'Pamela'). Bontu got inspired into music by various artists such as the late South African reggae icon Lucky Philip Dube, Nigerian Ben Priest, Jamaican Peter Tosh and Duane Stephenson. Bontu left his home town in 2012 to Nairobi the capital city of Kenya after his forth form with an aim of meeting better producers and studios.Between 2014-2018 he attended arts course at the University of Nairobi while recording music at the same time with various producers. Not convinced that education -teaching in classroom is his thing, he got deeply into music snubbing even his graduation ceremony which he never attended. Awere1 worked at a friend's friends cyber back in the college where he attended his course, getting some little money and attending a music school at Leidzen Arts Music in Kikuyu Kidfarmaco where he learnt drumming skills.He was a good friend to General Onyx a former keyboardist of Roots Connection Band who was then a producer living in Kikuyu town.
