Ode to Colleen

Song parody of Black Velvet Band by The Irish Rovers

In a sweet little town called Mountain Park, a beautiful sweet Lassie was born, and from that moment for 70 years, she’s been talking and never slowed down. Three girls were born to Dave and Anne The Mahoney’s were known far and wide Their beauty was the talk of many young men it filled mom and dad‘s heart with pride. Her voice is sweet and melodic Anne Murray’s got nothing on her and many a story she loves to tell her grandchildren are the cutest for sure The mountains and hiking do call her and the water is truly her love. But when in a canoe with her sister into the drink they went with a shove. Twas not her fault she told us Maureen really was the weak link or maybe Colleen had had too many beer, but we all know that she doesn’t drink Her voice is sweet and melodic Anne Murray’s got nothing on her and many a story she loves to tell her grandchildren are the cutest for sure She’s truly a talented lady painting and pottery just two of her skills, singing and dancing and tickling the keys and hiking the Cadomin hills at the end she hugs and cries sweetly saying it’s been the time of her life. Darryl will tell her to stop with that and give her another knife Her voice is sweet and melodic Anne Murray’s got nothing on her and many a story she loves to tell her grandchildren are the cutest for sure In uni Colleen met Clarence, so handsome and sporty was he and for this Lassie called Mildred, a better match could ne’er be so Clarence and Colleen had three sons into lovely young men they have grown. All married with children as we know cause many a picture’s been shown! Her voice is sweet and melodic Anne Murray’s got nothing on her and many a story she loves to tell her grandchildren are the cutest for sure
In a neat little town they called Belfast
Apprentice to trade I was bound, and many an hour sweet happiness I spent in that neat little town. Till bad misfortune came o'er me that caused me to stray from the land far away from me friends and relations did follow the black velvet band.
Her eyes they shown like the diamonds you'd think she was queen of the land and her hair fell over her shoulder tied up with a black velvet band.
Well I went out strolling one evening, not meanin to go very far when I met with a fickle young damsel she was sellin her trade in the bar. When I watched she took from a customer she slipped it right into my hand then the law came and put me in prison bad luck to her black velvet band.
Her eyes they shown like the diamonds you'd think she was queen of the land and her hair fell over her shoulder tied up with a black velvet band.
Next morning before judge and jury for trial I had to appear and the judge he says me young fellow the case against you is quite clear and sever long years is your sentence your goin to vandyman's land far away from your friends and relations did follow the black velvet band.

Her eyes they shown like the diamonds you'd think she was queen of the land and her hair fell over her shoulder tied up with a black velvet band.
So come all ye jolly young fellows I'll have you take warnin by me and when ever your out on the liquor me lads beware of the pretty colleens for they'll fill you with whisky and porter till you are not able to stand and the very next thing that you know me lads you've landed in vandyman's land.

Her eyes they shown like the diamonds you'd think she was queen of the land and her hair fell over her shoulder tied up with a black velvet band.
Her eyes they shown like the diamonds you'd think she was queen of the land and her hair fell over her shoulder tied up with a black velvet band.
