Through all the heartache
Through all the pain
Through all the suffering
And all the shame
The pain couldn't hold me down
And I'm still standing, yeah, I'm still standing

By his father and mother he was abandoned
With no concern for his safety, they left him stranded
A life of hurt was the very thing he was handed
My apologies, cuz I'm bout to be candid
Everywhere he went he felt a shame alone
And his explosive behavior made it be known
Walked around as if he wanted to be left alone
But he was really carrying the weight of being disowned
He was a bark but no bite, he was all talk but no fight
He was the biggest in height, but was the smallest in might
Cuz of the shame from within, cuz how they always blamed him
For their children's infractions, and for the bad that they did
They just made him more upset, made him extremely heated
Once again he was misunderstood and also mistreated
With no one to turn to he felt overwhelmingly crushed
Swimming in self-doubt, self-hate, and disgust

Through all the heartache, Through all the pain
Through all the suffering,
And all the shame, the pain couldn't hold me down
And I'm still standing, yeah I'm still standing
Been through the fire, I'm not the same
No longer bound, I'm forever changed
And I am stronger now
And I'm still standing, yeah I'm still standing

Yeah, became a bully as his anger developed, matured
Due to the emotional hurt he suffered and endured
People thought he was tough, yeah that's what they assumed
But he was guarded hidding those hurtful childhood wounds
All he wanted was for an adult to truly care
But to get compassion from the Zoes was extremely rare
Practiced his mean mug so others would think that he was tough
While praying and hoping no one would call out his bluff
With limited guidance he almost always felt lost
While having to front like he was some type of boss
His defiance was an obvious major cry for help
But all grandma did was beat his butt with the belt
Feeling like an unwanted burden in his grandma's life
Because of his mom's mistake she had to raise his twice
He thought his life was worthless, with nothing there to gain
But could you blame him cause he was shouldering so much pain

Through all the heartache
Through all the pain
Through all the suffering and all the shame
The pain couldn't hold me down
And I'm still standing, yeah I'm still standing
Been through the fire, I'm not the same
No longer bound, I'm forever changed
And I am stronger now
And I'm still standing, yeah I'm still standing

When he became an adult he processed his childhood trauma
By becoming aware of the dysfunction and the drama
That played his family in generations before him
Making a covenant that the curse would end with him
Committed to being the father that he never had
Relishing in the moment when he would become a dad
While being faithful being a one woman man
Proudly buying and driving the family minivan
His purpose was clearly birth by a deep place of hurt
Swore that his kids would grow up knowing that value and worth
And as he now contemplates, looks back and reflects
He's content and believes everything worked for the best
Now he educates the youth about the power of choice
And how to rightly express their God given voice
Even though he experienced a great amount of pain
He is thankful because he uses it to spark a change

Through all the heartache, through all the pain
Through all the suffering and all the shame
The pain couldn't hold me down
And I'm still standing, yeah I'm still standing
Been through the fire I'm not the same
No longer bound, I'm forever changed
And I am stronger now
And I'm still standing, yeah I'm still standing
Yeah, I'm still standing
Come on, still standing
Yeah, come on, come on
Come on
