It was Tuesday afternoon, last January, a day I'll never forget Snow started falling in the morning and hadn't let up yet I was sitting at work, I started feeling sick, told the boss I was going home He yelled something 'bout a deadline but I was already gone I was thinking how my life had changed, how I was so lucky I was thinking about my girl waiting at home for me When I pulled into the driveway, saw a strange car on the street I didn't pay it too much attention, I just wanted to get some sleep I opened the front door, I heard something crash, but I can't be sure Then my girl came from out of the bedroom Buttonin' her shirt and closing the door I was thinking how my life had changed, how I was so lucky I was thinking about my girl waiting at home for me She said you're home early, is everything ok I told her I got a pain in my gut, I been feeling like crap all day She said come in the kitchen and I'll make you a cup of tea As I took off my jacket I said that sounds good to me She smiled from across the table and then a car started up outside I said in this kinda weather you gotta be crazy to go out for a ride She looked down and then the phone rang, must've been one of her friends She wandered off into the other room, that's how our conversations end I just wanted to lie down, so to the bedroom I did go And outside my bedroom window, I saw footprints in the snow
