Ownership

The easy, fast & fun way to learn how to sing: 30DaySinger.com
The word simple and the word easy don't mean the same thing to me Simple, to me, is about the level of complexity of something While easy, to me, is about the level of difficulty of something So something can be simple to understand but not easy to do Like catching a fly with chopsticks If you caught that reference then I'm sorry But you have to face the fact that you are old Anyway I make the point about simple and easy here because The idea of succeeding at anything can be very overwhelming if we complicate the goal There are millions of different approaches we can take to achieve any one of our goals There are millions of different ideas we can listen to That could help us in one way or another With all these millions of approaches and all these millions of ideas it is easy to see Why we can believe succeeding at anything has to be complicated I believe succeeding, especially in areas like business, is simpler than we think What I have seen over and over again is that a lot of times When people set out to achieve a goal, like starting a business We start with trying to do the more complicated tasks Like forming LLCs or corporations, getting business licenses or designing logos But there are simpler pieces of the puzzle That not only come before the more complicated things But make the more complicated things easier to do Before talking about ownership, I want to paint a mental picture That hopefully is clear in the end Imagine having to take an algebra class but you never learned to multiply or divide You could work extremely hard to teach yourself the multiplication table And long division so that you are able to pass the algebra class But more than likely There are still going to be some holes in your understanding of algebra And some things you didn't have time to teach yourself Now I want you to imagine that on day one of the class the teacher comes in and says I know this is an algebra class, but I'm going to start with one plus one And teach you everything mathematical all the way up through the Trigonometry Which one of these scenarios will give you a clear and more complete Understanding of algebra Is it the first one where you somehow have to teach yourself things you don't know Or is it the second one, where you start at ground level With a teacher and simple fundamental things I know some will choose the first scenario saying Because you'd have to work harder for it It would mean more to you And these things make sense Especially when learning something you really care about learning But the holes in your understanding of it means You will miss opportunities that other people with a better understanding Will be able to take full advantage of Think about this right now the trend in business Is to start with trying to build a sales funnel or social media marketing Before we even understand who we are, what we are selling, why we are selling it And who needs what we are selling It's like learning to dunk a basketball without learning to dribble Dunking is exciting and it's glorious Anyone who plays basketball would love to be able to dunk But most of us need to learn the fundamental skills To get the ball to the goal before the dunk can happen It's so important to start with the simpler things So there won't be any weaknesses in our plans to succeed I know someone who, after playing four years of unbelievable college football Was told by an NFL team that, physically he was everything they look for in a player But because he wasn't familiar with some basic techniques That would normally have been taught at the high school level They could not sign him to the team When it comes to being an entrepreneur there are hundreds Of algebra and trigonometry level trends like online sales funnels And email marketing, that look like the fast lane to success But these things often turn out to be too much for beginners to understand and execute This is because a lot of us beginning businesses don't have a One plus one level of understanding of things like ownership and intellectual property Ownership is the most important ground level fundamental Of succeeding at any of your goals I don't care what kind of goal we're talking about Ownership makes the biggest difference to your future Success in anything is about the future and in an area like business The person who owns something is the one whose future benefits the most from it Here's food for thought on ownership If you go live or make a live recording on social media And nothing in the video is copyright protected Some platforms claim full ownership of that video The video is recorded straight to their platform And not stored in your device so that the platform has the only copy of it Here's why this is important If this video goes viral and that platform owns the video They get to collect ad revenue from companies who pay for their ads To be displayed before or during the video that you created This is why some platforms don't allow you to use Other people's copyrighted material in your live videos They do not want copyright owners to claim Any of the money they could make from advertising Copyright owners make claims against you Because you didn't pay them to use their property in your video These platforms can claim ownership of the video because it's on their platform Your profile page belongs to the platform That's how they have the power to shut it down Understand that going live on social media is not a bad thing It can help you grow and achieve a lot of your goals Also understand that these platforms are not mistreating you That's just business They get free content from you and other users And use that content to collect advertising dollars These companies own their platforms and their goal Is to benefit financially from those platforms The good news is that It's possible for you to do the same You can have your own copyrighted material in your posts and live videos You can also record your content with a second device while you are going live So that you can upload the same video to a platform like YouTube Where you can own the content and get paid ad revenue too There are a lot of things you can do to own the things you create Including completing copyright and publishing registrations But the point I want to make here is before you get caught up with trends Social media, and followings, ask questions to learn how to be the one who benefits The most from what you do Learn ways to create long-term success for yourself In the art, music, and entertainment world ownership and publishing is Where 99.999999999% of the money is made Because publishing has to do with controlling who has permission to use what you create Whether you're talking about a book that you've written, a song that you created A painting, a video or a toy you made, only people who own publishing in a project Have a say in how the project can be used Those people are paid for their permission to use the project The more percentage of the publishing you own on a project The more you are paid in royalties for your permission to use that project If you create something but you don't have the highest percent of control Over how it can be used then someone else owns your creation And they will benefit more than you do from something you made If you are a creator then you should find this interview with Brandon Bailey On the Earn Your Leisure Podcast for more detailed information About publishing and ownership in the creative world
